Early, provisional estimates suggest around 1 in 15 people in England had COVID-19 in the latest week.

The percentage of people testing positive for COVID-19 has risen in every English region and UK nation in the week to 31 December 2021.

It was highest in London (1 in 10 people), and lowest in the South West of England (1 in 30 people).
Infections consistent with the Omicron variant continue to increase rapidly and it is now the dominant variant in every UK nation.
These data are being published two days early during this period of high infections and are subject to change. Official estimates will continue to be published on Fridays.
