The latest deaths registrations highlighted

769 deaths involving coronavirus (COVID-19) in the week ending 27 August 2021, accounting for around 1 in 15 deaths from all causes (6.6%).

The number of deaths from COVID-19 was the highest since the week ending 26 March 2021.

COVID-19 deaths increased in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but fell slightly in Wales.
Separate data showed that there were

5,224 suicides registered in England and Wales in 2020, compared with 5,691 the previous year, a drop of 8.2%.

The decrease in the number of suicides registered in 2020 is likely to be due to registration delays during the pandemic and a decrease in male suicide at the start of the pandemic.
