Coronavirus (COVID-19) roundup: 1 May 2020

Main points from ONS report include:

  • London had 85.7 COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 population between 1 March and 17 April 2020, almost double the rate of the next worst-affected region (West Midlands at 43.2)

  • The local authorities with the highest age-standardised mortality rates for deaths involving COVID-19 were all London boroughs, led by Newham (144.3 deaths per 100,000 population), Brent (141.5) and Hackney (127.4)

  • Deaths involving COVID-19 occurred at more than twice the rate in the most deprived neighbourhoods of England (55.1 deaths per 100,000 people) compared with the least deprived (25.3)
