Today ONS have published data on weekly deaths registrations in England and Wales, including deaths involving COVID-19. Some of the main points include:

There were 33,408 deaths involving COVID-19 registered up to 1 May

So far there have been more deaths among men than women (19,130 compared with 14,278)

Most deaths involving COVID-19 have been among those aged 65 and over (29,495 out of 33,408)

The total number of deaths in the week ending 1 May was 17,953, lower than in the previous three weeks but still 80% higher than what we normally see at this time of year

Around three-quarters of additional deaths compared with the five-year average involved COVID-19
