Coronavirus (COVID-19) roundup: 2 June 2020

ONS have published data on deaths registered in England and Wales, including those involving COVID-19. Some of the main points include:

  • There were 43,837 deaths involving COVID-19 registered up to 22 May (24,412 men and 19,425 women)
  • Most deaths involving COVID-19 have been among those aged 65 and over (39,025 out of 43,837)
  • The total number of deaths in the week ending 22 May was 12,288, around 24% higher than the five-year averageĀ 

The number of deaths and the excess compared with the five-year average were the lowest since the week ending 27 March
