Coronavirus (COVID-19) roundup: 2 March 2021

ONS have published the latest data for deaths involving COVID-19 in England and Wales, and latest estimates on people testing positive for antibodies to SARS-CoV-2.

The main points include:

  • There were 4,079 deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19) in England and Wales in the week ending 19 February 2021 – 1,612 fewer than the previous week

  • Deaths from all causes also decreased, but remained above average for this time of year

  • In total, there were 13,809 deaths in England and Wales in the week ending 19 February, of which 29.5% involved COVID-19

  • An estimated 23.3% of the population in England would have tested positive to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in the 28 days up to 11 February 2021.

  • The estimate was 16.4% in Wales, 15.9% in Northern Ireland and 13.1% in Scotland.

  • The presence of antibodies suggests previous infection, vaccination or both.
