ONS have published the latest weekly figures on deaths from COVID-19 in England and Wales, as well as new analysis on deaths not involving COVID-19. Some of the main points include:
Fewer deaths from causes not related to the coronavirus have been recorded between 8 May and 10 July 2020 than the average for deaths at this time of year
This follows the period of 7 March to 1 May 2020, where there were 15% more non-COVID-19 fatalities than expected
Up to 21 August 2020, there were 52,173 deaths registered in England and Wales involving the coronavirus (28,698 men and 23,475 women)
The total number of deaths in the week ending 21 August 2020 increased to 9,631, while deaths involving COVID-19 remained stable compared with the previous week.
