Coronavirus (COVID-19) roundup: 2 September 2020

ONS have published the latest weekly figures on deaths from COVID-19 in England and Wales, as well as new analysis on deaths not involving COVID-19. Some of the main points include:

  • Fewer deaths from causes not related to the coronavirus have been recorded between 8 May and 10 July 2020 than the average for deaths at this time of year

  • This follows the period of 7 March to 1 May 2020, where there were 15% more non-COVID-19 fatalities than expected

  • Up to 21 August 2020, there were 52,173 deaths registered in England and Wales involving the coronavirus (28,698 men and 23,475 women)

  • The total number of deaths in the week ending 21 August 2020  increased to 9,631, while deaths involving COVID-19 remained stable compared with the previous week.
