27 April 2021
ONS have published the latest figures on resilient industries, suicide death registrations and analysis of how the pandemic has changed our relationship with nature.
The main points include:
-
Industries related to pharmaceuticals were among those that performed best throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020.
-
While industries linked to home and garden improvements performed the best, industries such as travel agents, tour operators and cinemas, performed the least well.
-
Inquest delays led to fewer suicide registrations in 2020 compared with 2019. The total number of people who died by suicide in 2020 will not be known for some time.
-
Data from Natural England indicate that some people turned to nature to cope with feelings such as increased anxiety during the pandemic.
-
Exercise levels were highest during the lockdown in spring 2020.
