Hospital obesity admissions reach record high

The Sunday Telegraph is reporting that cases of obesity-related conditions being treated on the NHS have risen by almost a quarter in just a year to reach a record level.

Official figures show the number of hospital admissions in England specifically linked to excess weight in 2018/19 hit 1.1m - up from 884,000 the year before.

The burden has doubled in just five years, with 442,000 such cases recorded in 2013/14.

Two in three adults and a third of children leaving primary school are overweight or obese, with UK obesity rates now twice the level in 1993.
