Information from NHS Digital suggests that the number of attendances to A&E increased by 4% compared with 2017-18 and 21% since 2009-10. In 2018-19, 88% of patient attendances spent 4 hours or less in A&E.
Attendances by deprivation showed there were more than twice as many attendances to A&E departments in England for the 10% of the population living in the most deprived areas (3.1 million), compared with the least deprived 10% (1.5 million).
