Inactivity and poor health

A major study by Queens University in Belfast indicates that each year as many as 70,000 deaths in the UK are caused by inactive lifestyles, with around 12 per cent of all deaths possibly associated with sedentary behaviour.

Rates of diabetes, heart disease and cancer are on the rise due to office work and lifestyles where too much time is spent sitting down. This is estimated to be costing the NHS £700m a year.
