More than one in four sandwich carers report symptoms of mental ill-health

More than 1.3 million people are part of the UK's so-called 'sandwich generation', who face the twin responsibility of caring for sick, disabled or older relatives, as well as children.

Analysis from Office for National Statistics shows that sandwich carers are more likely to report symptoms of mental ill-health, feel less satisfied with life, and struggle financially compared with the general population.
