New building safety regulator to enforce tougher rules

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has announced plans to create a new national building safety regulator, to enforce tougher safety rules on residential buildings more than 18m high. The plans will require “dutyholders” to be appointed – specific people to take responsibility for buildings’ safety – to address problems with accountability, with those individuals being open to prosecution in the case of persistent safety failures.
