Unweighted data from the latest wave of the Business Impact of Coronavirus Survey (BICS) indicate that a large proportion of responding pub and bar businesses have experienced significant financial difficulty.

More than a quarter (27.9%) of reporting pub and bar businesses had low or no confidence in surviving the next three months in November, while 23.6% had no cash reserves or less than one month remaining.

The UK’s average house prices increased by 5.4% over the year to October 2020, to stand at a record high of £245,000; this is the highest annual growth rate since October 2016.

Initial estimates show 1.3% of school staff in England participating in an infection survey tested positive for current coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, along with 1.2% of pupils.

Testing was conducted in schools between 3 and 19 November 2020 and included swab results for pupils and staff.

According to our Business Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) Survey (BICS), the proportion of UK businesses that are currently trading increased by 3 percentage points to 80% this week (30 November to 13 December).

A quarter of adults in Great Britain shopped for things other than basic necessities this week (week ending 13 December), the highest proportion in nine weeks.
