Record low cases of unexplained infant death
21 August 2019
Office for National Statistic data shows that the unexplained infant death rate in England and Wales has fallen to its lowest level on record.
The number of children under one who died from sudden infant death syndrome (Sids) or without a known cause dropped to 183 in 2017, down 19% on the previous year.
The ONS said the downward trend could be a result of advice and guidance from the NHS, the Welsh government and charities such as the Lullaby Trust.
