World Maternal Mental Health week - Promoting Recovery

Perinatal mental ill health can be challenging and upsetting, however with the right support a full recovery is possible.

Support can be from friends and family, or from health professionals such as Midwives, Health Visitors, GP's and Therapists.

Alternatively voluntary organisations may be able to help.

Self-care in the form of a healthy diet, gentle exercise and mindful activity can help recovery. However, this can be difficult to achieve in the perinatal period given the demand of caring for a baby, and any another other children you may have.

Medication can be helpful for some. Counselling and therapy can be helpful for others. In many cases it is a combination of all these that prompts a full recovery. Speak to your Midwife, GP or Health Visitor.

Here are some organistations who maybe able to help.
