Public Health Briefings

Local Government Public Health Briefings and NICE guidance

Between 2012 and 2015 NICE developed a series of local government briefings for a range of public health topics. They have also continued to develop a range of NICE Guidance that informs public health and wider practice in supporting local residents

The Local Government Briefings been withdrawn but NICE continue to provide access to those that are current. The content remains useful to a range of people so should be considered. These are listed in this table.

These briefings are meant for local authorities and their partner organisations in the health and voluntary sectors, in particular, those involved with health and wellbeing boards. They will be relevant to:

  • local authority officers and Councillors

  • directors of public health

  • commissioners

  • directors of adult social care and children's services

  • members of local authority scrutiny committees

The briefings may also be used alongside the local joint strategic needs assessment to support the development of joint health and wellbeing strategies.

The current NICE Guidance documents will be updated from time to time and former Local Government Briefings will remain available as long as NICE continue to provide them online

NICE guidelines and quality standards cover a wide range of topics relevant to local government and remain the best source of reference to inform evidence-based decision making.
