Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds feel less in control of their futures

Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are less likely than those from higher socio-economic backgrounds to feel in control of their futures.

Office for National Statistics (ONS) has analysed data from the Covid Social Mobility and Opportunities (COSMO) study, which surveyed young people in England whose GCSEs were disrupted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It showed one in four young people in the lowest-income households felt people like them don’t have much of a chance in life.
